International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women
The International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women: IAPESGW since 1949 has the aims of to bring together scholars and practitioners of many countries working in the fields of physical education, sport and physical activity; to represent and promote the interests of girls and women at all levels and in all areas of physical education, sport, dance and physical activity.
Board Elections are held every four years at the general assembly of the Quadrennial congress. This year due to the pandemic situation it will be electronically. It has always been a characteristic of IAPESGW to have representatives from all the continental regions of the world, we encourage you to participate in the election and support us to continue been a diverse and inclusive group.
The IAPGESW bylaw says:
The President, who shall be elected for a four year term of office and shall be eligible for re-election for one further term only.
The Vice-President, who shall be elected for a four year term of office and be eligible for re-election for one further term only.
One member who shall be elected for a four year term of office and be eligible for re-election for one further term only.
The national representative from a country shall be entitled to vote at the Council of National Representatives.
The Executive Board shall carry out policies within priorities identified for the association and make a quadrennial written report to the Council of National Representatives at each Congress. It shall have the power to establish sub-committees and carry out specific tasks.
The President shall chair General Meetings and meetings of the Executive Board, the Council of National Representatives and the Committee of Consultants. She shall assume a major responsibility for contacts with other international groups concerned with physical education and sport and shall represent the Association in international affairs.
The Vice-Presidents shall share the responsibilities of the President and deputies for her at her request. In addition, they shall assume responsibility for promoting membership, for maintaining liaison with the group preparing the next Congress and those completing the reports of the previous Congress and shall undertake such other tasks as the President shall from time to time require.
The Secretary shall service all official meetings and send correspondence requiring specific attention of the President, including:
Maintaining records of the Association, including copies of all official correspondence;
Distributing circulars;
Maintaining a list of members
Keeping accounts and arranging for them to be audited; and preparing a budget and a statement of accounts for presentation to the Council of National Representatives at each Congress.
The Treasurer position will be appointed by the board.

The President, the two Vice-Presidents, one Secretary, one Communication and one Board member shall be elected by the Council of National Representatives from nominations received one month in advance of the Congress. Nominations must be accompanied by a short curriculum vitae, with an intention letter and must be seconded by a member from a country other than that of the proposer. The consent and signature of the nominee must be obtained by the proposer.
Any person can stay only 8 years in the position. After that she can stay on the board only if she changes position.
The Co-opted Members shall be selected to increase regional representation in the Executive Board. In addition, member from the country which held the last Congress, for a term of four years only; and one member from the country which will be hosting the next Congress, as soon as that is known.
Due to the pandemic situation in the world, the Quadrennial Congress will be hybrid, and so, we needed to adapt the election with the real moment. The election will be online and follow the agenda below.
Issues shall be decided by a simple majority of those email received.
The national representative from a country shall be entitled to vote at the Council of National Representatives via e-mail communication as required.
The appointment of representatives from each country should be sent to the secretary Kathy Ludwig – kludwig@barry.edu and copied to Janice Crosswhite – crosswhite@bigpond.com – by July 26, 2021.
The candidate proposal should be submitted by August 1st, 2021, (Chinese zone local time) to the IAPESGW Secretary – Kathy Ludwig, email – kludwig@barry.edu, including a one-page CV, addressing Person Specification and a one-page motivation letter.
The national representative should receive the information of all the candidates by August 7th, 2021 (Chinese local time zone)
The national representative should vote on September 7th (Chinese local time zone)
The Representatives unable to send the vote shall appoint an official proxy, until September 5th. (Chinese local time zone)
The final election process will be on September 8th. (Chinese local time zone).
Due to the electronic vote and in order to guarantee that everybody could vote, the process will be done by email with a set time to reply. The explanation will be provided afterwards
The new elected Executive Board will be announced at the end of the congress. They will take office after the congress finishes.
The Executive Board will appoint the co-opted members according to the regional and expertise needs.
