How could we have known, even a few months ago, that the whole world would be in lockdown over a virus? But here we are, staying home and only going out for food, medical services, exercise or to buy essential items, wearing our masks and gloves while maintaining social distancing.
We sincerely hope this Update finds you and your family safe and healthy. We are living in uncertain times, and now more than ever, we are being called upon to look after ourselves, our families, neighbors and communities with kindness and compassion.
President Rosa Lopez de D’Amico said “IAPESGW expresses deep concern over this pandemic and offers our moral support and hope for the [health and] well-being of all”.
IAPESGW has collaborated with IWG to develop a media statement concerning how coronavirus is affecting women and girls in sport, physical education and physical activity – now and into the future.
We wish our political leaders, and our amazing medical professionals, much wisdom as they make decisions that will impact public health.
Some of the news in this Update is about the coronavirus and reactions to the pandemic. The major impact in sport is the one-year delay of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. With no local or international sport, businesses, schools and universities closed, there is little to report. However, we have compiled lots of up-to-the-minute articles and stories that will provide you some excellent reading while we have this downtime.
When you have a chance, please send your news, articles, memes, and photographs for daily posting on Facebook and Instagram. And of course, we always appreciate your feedback.
Stay safe, healthy and active. Reach out to your family, friends and colleagues via phone and internet, carefully following your country’s guidance.
